When American Horror Story: Freakshow debuted in October of 2014 there was some doubt about whether or not it would be the last incarnation of the serial show. From the beginning American Horror Story has been one of only a few TV shows to take on a serialized format where each season was an entirely different story and setting with the same actors playing new roles. Each season was one complete story where the story wrapped up in the season finale. Freakshow had a record setting premiere and audiences embraced the unique storyline set in the 1950s in Florida and following the stories of Elsa Mars and her stable of sideshow freaks. Thanks to the huge popularity of this chapter of the story the show was renewed early on in the season.
Fans of the original Poltergeist film have been waiting with a mix of anticipation and dread to see the trailer for the new Poltergeist reboot coming this summer. Originally the new version of Poltergeist was supposed to debut around this time but it got moved to the summer and is currently slated for release in July 2015. All eyes were on the trailer to see if the film would be able to find the right balance between the original and the new.
A Risky Reboot
The reboot was a risky proposition from the start. Poltergeist is one of the most iconic horror films in history and is one of the genre defining films of 80s horror films. Poltergeist ushered in an entirely new type of horror film in the early 80s and became the film that defined 80s horror. To remake a film that had such a huge impact on…
It’s finally official! The reboot of Ghostbusters with an all-female cast is moving forward and it’s going to be hilarious. Taking on the challenge of becoming Ghostbusters are some seriously funny ladies: Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon. Jones and McKinnon have proved their comedy cred on Saturday Night Live and they will have no trouble living up to their SNL alum Kristen Wiig’s lead. Melissa McCarthy and Kristen Wiig starred together in the comedy hit Bridesmaids which was directed by Paul Feig, who is also directing the Ghostbusters reboot. Also on board is writer Kate Dippold, who will join Feig in writing the script. Dippold has worked with Melissa McCarthy before. She wrote the script for The Heat in which McCarthy starred with Sandra Bullock. She just recently wrote a sequel to that film and has also worked on Parks and Recreation and Mad TV.
The new promotional material for the second half of Season 5 of The Walking Dead confirms fan speculation that the group is heading out of Georgia. The map that Abraham left for Rick when Abraham and the others set off for Washington and left Rick’s group at the church is proof that the group will be moving on. Also, the Alexandria Safe-Zone set was built in Senoia, GA where the show films over the summer and the fall. It is very likely that the group will try to take Noah to Richmond to find his family. They may or may not be successful, but they almost certainly head to the Safe-Zone from there. And while some fans are worried about what changes the group will go through when they leave Georgia it’s definitely time for the survivors to move out into the wider world. Here are 5 reasons why it’s…
It’s no secret that the Star Wars prequel trilogy was a universal disappointment to fans. Jar Jar Binks was probably the worst conceived character in the entire Star Wars pantheon, but he wasn’t the only problem with that trilogy. Fans are a little skeptical that the new trilogy, starting with Episode VII, The Force Awakens will be any better. But this time they have to get the films right because the story is picking up the story of Luke, Leia and Han Solo and fans will riot if these films are not done well. The purchase of Star Wars by Disney and the involvement of J.J. Abrams as both director and co-writer of the first film bodes well for the film. Fans are already excited by the trailer for The Force Awakens which was recently released.
Proving that movie studios are going to keep churning out as many comic properties as they can buy Warner Bros studio announced recently that it has no less than 10 films on the schedule based on DC comic superheroes. Some of those films will be crossovers and will feature several heroes from within the DC universe. Others will be based solely on one superhero figure although some of the other DC characters will probably end up making cameo appearances. The films are staggered, with some of them not appearing for another six years, but Warner Bros wanted to let fans know that their favorite comic superheroes will be making their way to the big screen eventually. Well some of them will. Notoriously absent from the superheroes who got their own films are fan favorites like Neil Gaiman’s Sandman. A Sandman movie is in production, but is going to be released…
Fans of the original Zombieland cult classic film have been waiting anxiously for news about a sequel. So far news has been hard to get because the project has been stalled out. But recently it seems that Zombieland 2 got a push forward when it was confirmed that Sony Pictures has hired Dave Callaham to write the sequel, Zombieland 2. Callaham wrote The Expendables script and has worked on other dark scripts in the past so he is a good choice to write the sequel. Unfortunately there is no director assigned to the project yet and the stars of the film have been silent on what role if any they want in the sequel. Since the original film several of the stars have gone on to quite successful careers and they might not want to revisit their Zombieland past. Only time will tell at this point.
It is close to impossible not to have heard (at least!) about the great HBO TV show Game of Thrones. This fantasy-like show has caught millions of people around the world and every season is eagerly awaited by them. Every single episode makes you stick to your chair in awe and amazement and every single end of the season leaves you thirsty for more. Once you watch the first couple of episodes in this show, you are bound to get addicted to it.
Crimes, sex, love, hatred – you name it and you’ve got it all. Sometimes bloody, sometimes downright erotic and other times simply sweet, this show is meant for a lot of types of viewers and regardless of whether you like war-themed movies or fantasy movies, you will most likely love Game of Thrones.
The secret lies in perfect writing and in impeccable acting as well. The plots are always surprising and it is really difficult to predict what will happen next. The characters are extremely well built and they will win your heart (or your hatred) in an instant. Even more, you will end up loving some of them one second and then hating them the next because none of them are just “good” or just “bad”.
As for the acting, each and every actor in the show makes a great job at bringing to life its character. There is something extremely realistic about portraying a world that is mere fantasy and where dragons, walking dead people and witchcraft are daily thing all characters deal with.
Dan Aykroyd confirms Ghostbusters 3 goes into pre-production in Spring
Among all the movies with a supernatural theme out there, Ghostbusters definitely plays an important role. While the main theme may not be original (it was certainly not the very first ghost story put on the big screen out there), the characters, the plot and the production of the movies have gained it a huge fan “database” that is eagerly awaiting for a new movie to come out (even if it has been several years since the last one was released).
Ghostbusters – The Original Story
The first movie featured Aykroyd (one of the scriptwriters), Bill Murray and Harlod Ramis (the other one of the scriptwriters) as parapsychologists living in New York who want to start a business focused on catching ghosts. At first, everyone is naturally skeptical to the idea of such a business, but the boys soon…
The Shining remains a Halloween tradition. When Stanley Kubrick started a film adaptation of Stephen King’s novel The Shining he didn’t set out to make a masterpiece. He was coming off of the release of a film that wasn’t a very big success commercially and he wanted to make a commercially appealing film that would generate some box office cash and hopefully get a little critical acclaim. But the primary motivation was commercial success. Thanks to his relentless attention to detail and his ability to use suspense and other elements he ended up creating one of the scariest films of all time. The film was released 1980 but is still culturally relevant today. References to scenes within the film are everywhere in popular culture. References to “Redrum” and other plot devices are almost universally recognized.
Let’s face it…Maleficent costumes are going to be very popular this Halloween!
Disney has always had an amazing ability to put out hit after hit. Many of the classic princesses are still beloved by young girls today, such as Cinderella, Ariel, Aurora, and more. Even the boys have Disney inspired characters to look up to. Not only does Disney have the capability to capture young hearts with its animated features, but the company also has a team of amazing and talented individuals that bring cartoons to life in non-animated feature films.
This year, comes Maleficent, Disney’s newest feature to their outstanding collection. Set to be released on May 30, this movie takes an interesting twist on a classic Disney fairytale. The story of the film is about Maleficent, the iconic “Mistress of All Evil” that cursed Princess Aurora to death on her sixteenth birthday in Sleeping Beauty.
Anyone who grew up in the 90s knows R.L. Stine’s Goosebumps series. Before Harry Potter swept the world and became the most popular young adult series in the history of time there was R.L. Stine’s Goosebumps series which is now the second most popular young adult series in history. Goosebumps is a horror series for kids. On the face of it that doesn’t sound like something that many parents would approve of. But, R.L. Stine’s novels were about things that all kids are scared of and the stories helped kids face and overcome their fear of the dark, fear of monsters, and other childhood fears. More than 60 books were published in the series, and they sold over 30 million copies. Even though the books were wildly popular no feature film based on Goosebumps was ever made. Until now. There was an animated TV show that ran for three years in the late 90s but no film.
Beetlejuice is Back in a Sequel to the Original Cult Classic!
There has been speculation for a long time about a Beetlejuice sequel and now it looks like it’s actually going to become a reality. In early February Michael Keaton, who starred as Beetlejuice in the original film, confirmed that he and director Tim Burton have been in email discussions about a sequel. Beetlejuice 2 looks like it is really going to happen and the fans couldn’t be happier about it. Winona Ryder has also confirmed that she has been involved in talks about reprising her role as Lydia Deetz. Beetlejuice 2 will focus on Lydia, and tell the story of what happens to Lydia after she escapes being the bride of Beetlejuice. No word has been released yet about whether or not the Maitlands will be part of the story of the sequel.
The first three seasons of AMC’s The Walking Dead have shattered records and confirmed The Walking Dead as one of the most successful TV shows in history. Both old and new fans are anxiously awaiting the start of season 4 which will premiere near Halloween in 2014. The main characters from The Walking Dead like Rick, Daryl, Michonne and Maggie are going to be showing up everywhere as some of the most popular Halloween costumes this year. The other stars of the show, the zombies, are always popular for Halloween and this year will be no exception.
Fans are already buzzing about season 4 of The Walking Dead because the main villain of season 3, The Governor, didn’t die in the season final as everyone assumed he would. In interviews the writers and director of the show have said that The Governor will be around for a long time…
We have previously mentioned that Ghostbusters 3 will probably become a reality very soon. This is great news for Halloween fans. Dan Aykroyd recently revealed additional information in an interview with Larry King.
Aykroyd said It’s based upon new research that’s being done in particle physics by the young men and women at Columbia University… Basically there’s research being done that… I can say that the world… our dimension that we live in, our four planes of existence, length, height, width, and time, become threatened by some of the research that is being done. And ghostbusters, new ghostbusters, have to come and some the problem.
